Writing About Winter Free Writing Book
Here’s a free writing book template for your students to write about during their winter break.
You can send it home with your students and they can write about an experience they had or they can write at school as part of a writing lesson.
First, I have students share what they did over the break. We make a circle and each student says what they did over the break.
I know that some families don’t do go on vacation for financial or personal reasons. I always tell my students to tell me who they spent the winter break with and what did they do. This way, we focus on the relationship and not the resource. Some students will say they went on a trip and some students will say they stayed home and read a book or went to the library with a parent. All answers are valued and welcomed.
Winter Break Narrative
The next day, we dive deeper into their winter break. Students turn and share more details about their winter break with a partner. They will include who they spent the break with, where they went and what happened. We will talk about being specific so we can visualize your narrative. I model how to narrate a story and how to be an active listener before allowing the students to do it independently.
Then, we use the writer’s workshop model to revise, write and publish our work. This usually takes several days.
