Roll and Record Math center freebie

Hello There! I want to quickly upload a free math center activity that my students loved.

What is Subitizing?

Roll and Record is a math activity for students to practice subitizing a familiar configuration to 6. Subitizing is the ability to recognize a number of objects without counting. Subitizing is an important conceptual skill for students to gain in early mathematical experiences. Seeing 3 dots and 3 more dots and realizing that is 6 is an important skill to grasp.

Roll and Record math center activity - students roll the dice and trace the number to show how many dots. A hands-on subitizing lesson for primary learners.

When can I use this game?

Roll and Record is a simple learning activity. Students roll a dot cube and record the number they rolled. Since subitizing is a skill that we teach at the beginning of the year as well as number formation. Students can trace the numbers to help them practice correct number writing. You can use this activity during small group math, math centers, or for hands-on homework.
