Fall and Halloween-Themed Freebies and Activities
October is the perfect time to bring fall and Halloween fun into your primary classroom! The changing season and festive vibes create a great opportunity to engage students in educational and exciting math, literacy, and writing activities.

Spin and Compare
Spin and Compare is a fun and hands-on way to practice number comparisons! Students spin the spinner twice, build both numbers using manipulatives or drawings, and then compare the numbers using greater than or less than symbols. This activity is perfect for kindergarten and first-grade students who are still building a strong foundation in number sense. It’s engaging and keeps them practicing critical math skills in a fun, seasonal way.
Fall-Themed Word Problems
I love incorporating word problems with a fall twist for first graders! These word problems encourage students to use multiple strategies to solve. They can use a number bond, draw a picture, fill in a ten-frame, or use a number path. Afterward, students write a statement to explain their answer. These worksheets strengthen problem-solving skills and encourages using different strategies for understanding math.
October-Themed Writing Prompts
Incorporate some spooky fun into your writing lessons with Halloween-themed writing prompts! These prompts come with an editing checklist to help students revise their work. There’s also space for students to draw a picture related to their writing, which is always a favorite part. These journal prompts are a great way to spark creativity while reinforcing writing and editing skills.
